Abstract :
Describes the design of a force rebalance accelerometer to be used in a meteorological atmosphere probe. The force rebalance design was chosen instead of a passive accelerometer to produce the large sensor dynamic range necessary to resolve atmospheric features. A dynamic measurement range of greater than 90 dB was demonstrated using numerical simulation. A key feature of the accelerometer is a tunneling position sensor used to measure the error position of the proof mass
