Abstract

The main orientations and objectives of the new European Community R&D programmes concerned with communication technologies and telematic systems are presented. Following the call for proposals in mid 1991, and the subsequent evaluation of proposals, it is possible to describe the joint research activities of particular importance to development of intelligence in networks. Work on applications of advanced communications in the key areas of transport management, health-care and distance training is also briefly outlined
