Abstract :
The authors give a short introduction to universal personal telecommunications (UPT) and summarize the characteristics currently proposed for standardization. They then assess the capabilities required in telecommunication networks to implement UPT. They focus on the implementation of UPT by means of intelligent networking and list functions to be performed by the main functional entities. Finally, they give examples of UPT procedures built up of information flows as described in service independent building blocks
