Abstract
The physical layer performance of a reconfigurable metro ring network is investigated through numerical simulations. Typical signal impairments are considered and mitigated assuming that the reconfigurable add drop multiplexer nodes are based on small switch arrays. System-optimized specifications for the spectral bandwidth of optical filters, electrical receiver filters, and inband crosstalk under various dominant noise conditions are presented. When employing the optimized specifications, a required bit error rate performance of the network is achieved
