Abstract
An application of knowledge-based systems to the field of engineering is described. NETCON is an expert system for configuring distributed control systems. It is integrated within the company information system and deployed by automation systems engineers. An illustration is presented of its architecture, design, and implementation criteria as well as the system integration in an overall automated engineering system. Knowledge and data structures are also described
