Abstract :
This paper describes the design of an implantable velocity-selective electroneurogram (VSR-ENG) recording system suitable for recording ENG signals with a bandwidth of 10 KHz. In this system, a signal acquisition ASIC called the electrode unit (EU) is mounted directly on a multielectrode nerve cuff (MEC) to capture and digitize ENG signals. The captured ENG data is then transmitted over an implantable cable to another ASIC called the monitoring unit (MU) which serves as the control unit, which works with an RF transcutaneous link to communicate with an external signal processing unit. A bespoke digital communication protocol between the MU and EUs is used. The MU and EU are fabricated in 0.35 mum and 0.8 mutm CMOS technologies respectively.
