Abstract
Acousto-optic all-fiber phase modulators have been fabricated by coating a standard telecommunication fiber with zinc oxide sandwiched between two chromium/gold electrodes. Good reproducibility and uniformity has been achieved with 6 μm thick ZnO and 2 and 6 mm long devices. The response on the order of 10-4 rad/(V*mm) at low frequency is dominated by the properties of the materials. At high frequency, resonant modes allow modulation efficiency as high as 0.5 rad/(mW)0.5 5 to be obtained. Modulation of +/-π/2 phase shift has been demonstrated
