  • Abstract
An online auction is simply defined as a virtual marketplace hosted on the Internet to match buyers and sellers of goods around the globe regardless of the physical limitations of traditional auctions such as geography, presence, time, and space. Online auctions operate different protocols including English, Dutch, First-Price Sealed Bid and Vickrey with different properties for each one of these protocols. This paper reviews the different types of auctions and the strategies proposed in support of buyers and sellers participating in these auctions. Seller strategies for auctions that adopt protocols other than English are then presented. A scheme that integrates a number of strategies suitable for one of the auction types, namely the Dutch auction, is then developed and discussed
