Abstract
Intelligent sensor is a device in which sensing elements and processing units are integrated in a tightly coupled manner. Using “SmartHead”(1995)-Autonomous Vision Sensor with Ears- we show that integration of advanced automation and optimality are the main goals of an intelligent sensor. Using a quad-aural sound localizer and an ultrafast correlation image sensor, we emphasize the importance of “orthogonality” and correlation in sensor design. Using a 3D structured tactile sensor and a fishbone architecture, we show how we can learn from human sensory mechanisms
