Abstract
This paper presents an alternative method to improve the reliability of power distribution system against temporary ground fault by means of a recloser inserted between neutral point of substation power transformer and the grounding resistor. This recloser trips when there is ground fault at the feeder and reclose on a preset time delay. If the fault is sustaining, the grounding recloser will close permanently and the traditional overcurrent protection takes place. The field trial confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method. The method is named as Ground Fault Path Clearing system or GFPC for short.
