Abstract
Perpendicular recording is viewed as the next phase in the evolution of magnetic recording areal density. As we´ve investigated perpendicular recording technology, a number of new issues have been uncovered. Areas of difference with traditional longitudinal recording include read signals, noise, adjacent track effects. This paper reviews some of these differences, explores the factors influencing BAR for perpendicular recording technology.
