  • Abstract
It is often important to demonstrate and test algorithms, prior to the commitment to an embedded system or development of custom silicon. The idea of proof of concept is a simple one, however, often it is a challenge to quickly and cost effectively implements a proof of concept. Rapid algorithm development tools are available, but they are expensive, and it is difficult to generate code that you can readily modify and use in the embedded target application. An example of a low cost, simple, flexible, and effective platform for the testing of real-time algorithms and control systems is outlined, with some pitfalls and results demonstrated. Basic concepts for the selection of hardware and software components are also discussed
