Abstract
The rapid growth in wireless data services has resulted in development of 3G networks. With the advent of 3G wireless networks and their deployment, a strong need of efficient management of the system has arisen. The importance of an open, scalable, flexible and efficient architecture for element management system (EMS) for these networks is now well established. This paper addresses the importance of efficient management of 3G network elements especially node Bs. Management of thousands of node Bs for an operator is a challenging task. This enforces that a scalable and flexible architecture and design of EMS be implemented. This paper gives the functionality, design and architecture of element management system for node Bs. The proposed architecture assumes an agent running onto the node Bs. The proposed EMS design is implemented using "C" code and tested with node B simulator.
