Abstract
Based on developments in the domain of distributed object oriented software, several experiments on distributed multimedia over ATM networks have been conducted at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Ottawa. The design of a distributed CORBA like-architecture for a multimedia application is presented. The implementations of two mechanisms for communication over the ATM networks are discussed: first a multimedia application using IP protocols (TCP and UDP), then a communication mechanism using the ATM adaptation layer
