  • Abstract
Describes a system which uses dual-wavelength fiber-optic fluorescent technology for measurement of blood gas values (PO2 , PCO2 and pH). The system is required to provide precise and accurate results, following a single calibration, for up to six days under conditions where the ambient temperature may change by 20°C. This discussion is limited to the dual-wavelength CO2 optical channel. By comparing computer models with measured results, detailed design considerations and limitations which impact the precision and accuracy of measurements are understood. We describe the models used in understanding more about individual system components, the interrelationships of components and optimization of system performance
