Abstract :
The network management systems for IP networks should be able to manage a large-scale network because the number of network elements increases. Currently, there are many applications of the IP network management system. These applications are being used by many users and are readily available for LANs. Though it is expected that such large-scale networks will be managed using SNMP, it is difficult to make a network management system using SNMP on a single computer. An effective way to solve this problem is to construct a network management system using a distributed processing environment. We have developed a new distributed IP network management system. The system consists of several subsystems, which enables the processing load for IP network management to be reduced. In our system evaluation, the system was implemented on DCE, a client-server environment, and it was found that the overhead time of the distributed processing was small in comparison with the overall response time
