Abstract
This paper discusses properties of a wideband conical horn antenna, of which the tapered portion has four ridges mounted symmetrically. Taking advantage of the FEM method, the authors succeed in calculating various cut-off wavelengths and electromagnetic fields at different cross sections of the ridged tapered circular waveguide. Based on the results, the VSWR of the tapered portion is evaluated correctly and the results show that the antenna can work well within the 2-18 GHz band (with VSWR lower than 2.0).
