Abstract :
The temperature distribution and thermal cycling curve in butt joint welding was investigated by finite element method (FEM) using ANSYS software. The butt joint welding of ASTM GR.65 steel was carried out by carbon dioxide arc welding in order to investigate the microstructure in heat affected zone. The result obtained by FEM shows that on general temperature distribution along both transverse and vertical direction appears regular distribution. The microstructure predicted by FEM simulation is the same as that obtained by experiment, thus the accurate of FEM model is proved.
