Abstract
The electromagnetic fields of a horizontal electric dipole and arbitrary current element on a metal bar are derived employing the Hertz vector method. According to this result, the expressions of the electromagnetic field generated by the metal bar moving across a geomagnetic field are obtained. This study is the theoretical basis of further research on the electromagnetic field of a ship moving across the Earth´s magnetic field in water.
