Abstract
A new power network modeling method, suitable for network clustering techniques, is presented in this paper. The method is based on representing the system buses as modules, and the connecting branches as nets. The number of nets connecting each pair of modules is chosen to be a function of some electrical property of the equivalent branch connecting the pair of buses. The solution technique provides complete freedom in choosing the electrical property of the greatest importance to the clustering application. Previous heuristic approaches have dictated the use of admittance matrix, only for being a highly sparse matrix, to represent the measure of connectivity between buses. Consequently, the proposed solution technique has the advantage of being selective in the aspect of choosing the electrical connectivity measure
