Abstract
We have conducted a theoretical study to compute the electromagnetic field level inside a typical ground vehicle due to a cellular phone. In this regard, the vehicle is first modeled by an appropriate 3-dimensional wire-grid structure while the cellular phone is approximated by a dipole antenna inside the vehicle. The governing Maxwell equations are then solved using an electric field integral equation method. Simulation results are presented to examine the electromagnetic field levels inside the vehicle due to the radiating dipole antenna with various polarizations. It is shown that the cellular phone acts to excite a resonant cavity representing the metallic compartment of the vehicle.
