Abstract
Vehicular Delay-Tolerant Networks (VDTNs) were proposed as a novel disruptive networks based on the delay tolerant networking (DTN) paradigm. VDTN architecture uses vehicles to relay data, enabling network connectivity in challenging scenarios. This architecture uses the store-carry-and-forward parading allowing messages reaching their destination by hopping over nodes. This paper presents an evaluation study performed through a real-world VDTN testbed using two applications: Warning Message and Traffic Jam Information. It also validates the real deploy of this new vehicular communication approach. Because the laboratory environment does not accomplished several complex issues presented in vehicular communication systems, this real testbed is an important contribution. The real deployment of VDTN is confirmed by the results. This deployment is possible and this can be seen as a very promising technology for vehicular communications, although it is required appropriated technologies for outline interferences and quality of service support.
