Abstract :
Several companies are preparing to launch high resolution imaging satellites. Images from these satellites will have 1 to 3 meter ground resolution and will be very useful for analyzing the current status of the Earth´s surface. An intelligent GIS and DB based image processing system, TIPS (Tactical Information Processing System) has been designed and implemented to support the detailed analysis of the land surface. This system is designed to provide a computer graphics environment in which the analyst can interactively operate the entire analyzing process such as digitizing, geometric correction by ground control points, interactive enhancement, various transforms, arithmetic operations, calculating vegetation indices, various classifications and estimations, etc. The TIPS is expected to be a valuable tool for investigating the various facts such as the change detection, land cover classification, capacity estimation of the industrial complex, urban information extraction, etc. using high resolution images
