Abstract :
A more general variable coefficient higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation (VCHNLSE) in nonlinear fiber optics is studied by constructing a transformation which maps the VCHNLSE to the Sasa-satsuma equation (SSE), thus its solutions are expressed explicitly from the known ones of the SSE. One novel feature of this transformation is made up of two arbitrary functions so that we can design different integrable VCHNLSEs from different concerns.
