Abstract
Most systems using voice synthesis to provide access to computer screens for blind/visually impaired users are too expensive for private use by (often unemployed) computer novices. Using a commercially available system with a text-to-speech algorithm and the speech in software and a public domain screen access system makes entry level accessibility a reality for impecunious users
