Abstract :
The authors have developed an adaptive kid-car for use with children that have severe/profound disabilities. They call it the CooperCar. It uses a Sears-provided inexpensive 6-wheeled vehicle, the CooperCar Conversion Kit proprietary electronics, an adaptive seat, and either the authors´ own specially designed joystick, or any of the numerous switches commercially available. The switch(es) is dependent on the ability of the child. Because of the variety of disabling characteristics, many supervisor-selected features are included. There are seven speeds, two accelerations, two supervisor overrides, and a timed mode for those children that cannot maintain contact with their switch or joystick
