Abstract
The paper discusses a practical control system using fuzzy logic in a petroleum plant. Automation of the pump start-up is achieved by replacing the expert operator´s knowledge with fuzzy control rules. The results show the system´s effectiveness in an actual plant. The system reduces the time for pump start-up by 50 percent compared with a ramping algorithm controller
