Abstract
The Tamara system was developed for people unable to move, speak, or control their surroundings without human or technical assistance. It is a wheelchair mounted control unit utilizing a microprocessor, which is configured for each user. It directs control signals to the power wheelchair, speech output communicator, environmental control, computer, and telephone. One switch is used to change between mobility, communication, environmental control, and telephone. Depending on ability, proportional input or a single switch is used to control the operation of the selected device. Programming within the microprocessor assists the user by prompts and programs to speed and simplify operation
