Abstract :
The benefits in terms of cost savings that a firm can achieve in order picking processes by choosing the right combination of picking, storage assignment and routing policies will be lost if picking racks are not being properly fulfilled. This is the case of a renowned luxury cosmetics firm, in which the shortage of products in manual picking racks brings as a consequence a reduction in system performance. In this paper, a new procedure for picking racks replenishment is proposed. The information required for deploying the procedure was retrieved from the warehouse management system (WMS) installed in the facility. The results obtained after implementation are also presented.
