Abstract
Normally the distribution automation functions are studied individually. In this paper the step-by-step approach to automate the distribution system is discussed. It cant be applied to existing distribution systems as well as for new design of distribution systems. This integrated approach begins with radial distribution systems, preparation of data base, load flow, location of sectionalizing, tie switches, capacitor switching system reconfiguration, fault identification, supply restoration and metering at substation. Current and voltage signals are sampled and a digital signal processing algorithm is used for phasor estimation. The status of DA system equipment can also be viewed and monitored by user-friendly software.
