Abstract
We present the strategy for introducing workflow technologies within the Generali Vienna Group, a large insurance company operating mainly in Central Europe. We discuss the opportunities we see for workflow management in the insurance business as well as the obstacles we faced at: the business process reengineering phase; the workflow product evaluation phase; and the workflow introduction phase. In the business process reengineering phase we consolidated and streamlined the way the insurance business is done across the different branches of our company. After that we had a look at the workflow market. During this product evaluation phase, we found that the workflow market is still immature. It took us half a year of evaluation to find a suitable product for enterprise wide use. Currently we are in the workflow introduction phase. In this phase our IT infrastructure has to be workflow-enabled.
