Abstract :
Production planning of manufacturing systems that produce pure make-to-stock (MTS) and pure make-to-order (MTO) concurrently is one of the intricate issues. On the other hand, several systems like food production industries produce a type of products in hybrid MTS-MTO manner in addition to pure MTS and pure MTO products. With involving the production of these hybrid MTS-MTO products in these systems, the issue of production control and scheduling becomes very challenging. To deal with this challenge, we present a novel production control policy for a shop with hybrid MTS/MTO production environment including pure MTS, pure MTO, and hybrid MTS-MTO products. The proposed model encompasses two major modules: bottleneck identification and release. To evaluate the proposed model, several performance measures for these three types of products have been considered. Simulation studies indicate that the proposed model outperforms other excellent production control policies in the literature.
