Abstract
This paper proposes a simple impulse noise canceler for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) receiver. The proposed scheme detects its position of impulsive noise in the OFDM observation period by making use of guard frequency band. The impulse noise is then blocked according to the detected position. Although the blocking could cancel the impulse noise component, it also disturbs the orthogonality amongst sub-carriers. This implies that the performance could be degraded due to inter-carrier interference (ICI) caused by the blocking. In order to reduce the effect of ICI, raised cosine shaped function is employed. Computer simulation results show that the proposed scheme is capable of mitigating the effect of impulse noise.
