This paper develops a new economic geographic model with endogenous growth and patent protection. We find that strengthening patent protection can promote both agglomeration and economic growth under certain conditions. Strengthening patent protection can foster economic growth directly by stimulating innovation and indirectly by increasing the level of agglomeration.
