Abstract :
In this paper, a genetic algorithm (GA) based method to determine the optimal siting of flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) controller is proposed. Optimal siting of FACTS device refers to the best placement of a selected FACTS device in the system with the consideration of economics and cost effectiveness. The guidelines on how to determine the proper location of FACTS device are also discussed. The proposed approach is based on a simple 4-bus power system. The results are presented to show the feasibility and practicality of this approach
