Abstract :
We study electromagnetic waves guided by a cylindrical plasma channel of infinite length embedded in a uniform collisional magneto-ionic medium (magnetoplasma) and aligned with a superimposed static magnetic field. We show that such channels can guide weakly attenuated modes at frequencies lying below the electron gyrofrequency. The distinctive features of the dispersion properties and the field structures of modes in the course of their propagation are discussed. The cases have been shown to exist where the presence of small collisional losses results in a significant change in the field structures of the weakly attenuated modes. Results of numerical calculations are presented for cases of interest.
