Abstract :
This paper proposes a simple three phase, three level IGBT based ac-dc neutral point clamped converter with a shunt passive filter, at the front end of a PWM VSI feeding induction motor drive, to compensate reactive power, reduce harmonics in source current and to regulate dc link voltage. Mathematical model is used to design the control scheme for the front-end converter. Passive shunt filter is connected at the point of common connection in supply side. The system performance is evaluated in terms of total harmonic distortion and input power factor of source current. Simulation results show that proposed scheme with passive filter gives less harmonics and unity power factor compared to some well established schemes.
