Abstract :
Two modifications to Canny edge detection algorithm are proposed to improve edge continuity and reduce fault edge output in fiber cross-sectional processing. First, two thresholds for edge decision are calculated according to the intensity distribution of the input image. Then, based upon fiber characters, two conditions are added for edge tracing to search and link fiber edge segments, and remove edge segments those failed to show fiber edge properties. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithms suppress the noise output greatly and do not deteriorate fiber the edge continuity.
