Abstract :
A single-phase controlled saturable reactor with active-filter-assisted harmonic compensation is proposed. This new technique allows the reactor to generate pure sinusoidal reactive current over the entire range of reactive power regulation. The controlled saturable reactor and active filter provide a clean, reliable and economical means of large-power, high-voltage reactive power compensation. Mathematical models of both the reactor and active-filter are established. Sliding-mode control is introduced for the filter to track and compensate for the harmonics produced by the controlled reactor. Steady state and transient simulations of the system are performed, which demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this new technique
