Abstract :
Block truncation coding (BTC) is a simple fast image compression algorithm with a low compression rate of 2 bits-pel. Vector quantization of the BTC outputs can reduce the bit-rate to 1 bit/pel but then the computating time becomes very large. This paper describes a multi-stage VQ algorithm which substantially reduces the time required
