Abstract
Here the Doppler spread compensation technique for underwater acoustic (UWA) communication using vehicles is considered. I focused on an array-assisted Doppler spread compensation technique proposed in 2006 and applied the technique for UWA communication for vehicle operation. The accuracy and utility of the technique were examined using a test tank. The results suggest that the technique works effectively to cope with Doppler spreads; its use increased the output signal-to-noise ratio up to 5 dB compared to the Doppler shift correction scheme. Considering its good performance, simple physical requirements, and low calculation cost, this technique could play an important role in UWA communication for underwater vehicles.
