Abstract
We report a novel FBG sensor for measuring weight. The FBG was bonded to the cantilever load cell structure using a fast setting epoxy. The structure was loaded with standard weights and observed the reflected spectrum. Shift in wavelength was found linear and repeatable. Transmitted spectrum of the FBG was also measured. The observations were almost the same during the loading and unloading of the structure; hence it is proved that it is free of hysteresis. In order to change the range of the measurement cantilever load cell structure need to be suitably selected.
