Abstract :
Encapsulation, translation, transparent (IEEE802.1d) and source routing, techniques vary in the way in which the frame is formatted over the FDDI network, and consequently differ in the way in which frames are analyzed in the bridge and introduced to the FDDI network. This paper examines each of the bridging techniques used in the Ethernet and IEEE 802.3 environments. It evaluates the technical feasibility, and describes algorithms for each method. It also describes the application which best suits each method
