Abstract :
In order to monitor distributed tensile deformation in geological hazard, an elastic helical structure TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) cable is designed. This cable consists of three parts. In the center of the cable is a silicone rubber rope. A couple of parallel wires coil around the silicone rubber rope. Silicone rubber pipe covers parallel wires. This cable has good elasticity. The impedance of the cable increases when the cable is stretched, which is measured by impedance analyzer. The distributed inductance and the distributed capacitance of the cable are analyzed. Finally, the ability in detecting distributed deformation is tested with time-domain reflectometer.
