Abstract :
With the widespread usage of mobile phones primarily due to their reduced costs, they are now not only being used for communication but can also assist law enforcing agencies to keep track of speeding vehicles or can be used by organizations to keep track of its employees. The three ways of tracking which are primarily in use are (a) via GPS (b) Using signal attenuation property of a packet and (c)Using GSM network. GPS requires a dedicated device to be installed in the handset for tracking purposes, whereas (b) needs to have a very high precision energy measuring device . GSM network technique eliminates above mentioned cost overheads. This paper implements GSM network technique in NS2 to track the mobile and checks whether the accuracy is comparable with the other two mentioned techniques. The results confirm that we can achieve an accuracy of 97%.
