Abstract
U-shaped microstrip geometry is proposed to lower DGS resonance frequency. This modified microstrip geometry with conventional defected ground structure (DGS) shows a sharp rejection narrow width stopband. The sharp rejection property is utilized to design a compact three-pole lowpass filter (LPF) having sharp passband to stopband transition knee, maximum attenuation rate being 142.9 dB/GHz
