Abstract :
This paper introduces an intelligent system developed for Slave Lake Pulp Corporation (SLPC) and Daishowa-Marubeni International (DMI) Peace River Pulp Mill in Alberta, Canada. The system fulfils such functions as online intelligent operation manual, process simulation, quality prediction, operation optimization, fault diagnosis and decision making. Special emphasis is placed on the integration of the intelligent system with the existing mill automation facility, the integration of different problem solving techniques to solve complex engineering problems and the integration of multimedia system. Keeping the operators in the control loops is another consideration in the system design. The technologies for developing the system have shown great advantages
