Abstract :
Silicone rubber insulators are noted for their excellent anti-contamination performance in most environments. However, acid rain conditions challenge many materials including silicone rubber used for high voltage outdoor insulators. Presented in this study are the results of a long term (720h) acid rain + multistress performance of 10kV insulators, containing silica and ATH additives under Islamabad, Pakistan conditions. The various stresses applied include UV radiation, heat, and acid rain spray. The results indicate that the insulators remained intact despite some degradation. It can be safely assumed that these insulators can withstand the studied conditions for several years.
