  • Abstract
A systematic methodology is presented for the synthesis of SPICE-compatible broadband electrical models for pins and vias. Starting with a set of frequency-dependent data that quantify the electromagnetic properties of single or coupled interconnect discontinuities, a vector curve fitting algorithm is used to generate closed-form rational function representations of the frequency-dependent responses. Subsequently, a systematic approach is introduced for the direct synthesis of lumped circuit representations of the rational functions, containing standard circuit elements. The synthesized circuits are compatible with SPICE-based circuit simulators. The proposed methodology is demonstrated through specific numerical experiments
