Abstract :
In tactical networks, the quality of service of flows which demand an assured data rate requires connection admission control, and this process can be strongly improved by coupling it with QoS-oriented routing. The TACOMS phase 2 intelligent routing solution does not only choose paths according to their ability to provide a specified data rate, it can also select the route of a flow as a function of a target performance such as its end-to-end transit delay, or as a function of the end user´s preference for certain types of links. Being able to select constrained routes, TACOMS phase 2 provides path diversity between a source and a destination, and thus multiplies the quantity of traffic which can be transported by a network without provisioning additional resources. These benefits can be reaped at the scale of a multinational military network of virtually any size, and without imposing any standards inside national systems. TACOMS phase 2 is agnostic to the technology of underlying national networks and is compatible with the use of commercial off-the-shelf routers both in these national networks and in TACOMS interoperability gateways themselves.
